FAQ24 hours to Freedom
One of our most frequently asked questions is what exactly is the procedure involved with lasik surgery and how long does it take. The whole process of lasik from the first appointment to the lasik surgery can be remarkably quick.
It consists of two parts:
- The comprehensive Lasik Assessment
- The Lasik Surgery
Lasik surgery on the same day as the examination is possible but not advised as the pupils will be dilated. Lasik can be performed anytime from the next day onwards.
Comprehensive Lasik Assessment

The first step is to make theappointment for the Comprehensive Lasik Assessment. To do this, call our Lasik Hotline at 65- 6836 2622. Our consultants will answer your call and schedule an appointment. If you wear soft contact lenses, please stop wearing for 5 days before appointment. For hard contact lenses, stop 2 weeks before the appointment.
A complete and thorough examination is performed. This will last for 2-3 hours and will include the following:
- Visual acuity measurement
- Intraocular pressure measurement
- Automated refraction and keratometry
- Pachymetry (measurement of corneal thickness)
- Corneal topography
- Measurement of Higher Order Aberrations with the Wasca
- Refraction by our optometrist
- Dilated refraction
Your surgeon will then see you for a thorough slit lamp examination of your eyes. He will also use Indirect Ophthalmoscopy to image the retina inside the eyes. At this stage he will answer any questions or doubts regarding the surgery.
A good idea, as you proceed through the examination, is to write down your questions so that you do not forget to ask them.
We will then discuss all aspects of the surgery with you and answer any questions you may have. We will advise you on all the available options for your lasik surgery and you can then make an informed decision as to what type of treatment ( Standard, Advanced Aspheric, Advanced Aspheric Wavefront, Tissue Saving Mode etc.) to chooseLasik surgery on the same day as the examination is possible but not advised as the pupils will be dilated. Lasik can be performed anytime from the next day onwards.
Lasik Surgery Day

On the day of surgery, arrive at the allotted time. You will be given a consent form, which you need to read through and sign. You are free at any stage to ask questions and clear up any doubts that you may have.
You will be given a mild sedative tablet which will make the lasik process more comfortable.
Before Lasik, we will administer anesthetic eye drops.
The eyelids will be cleaned and you will be gowned in the theatre gear.
We take great care to maintain a clean environment for lasik. The theatre is temperature and humidity controlled as this is important for the machine to function properly.
The whole process of lasik surgery from making the flap to the laser correction takes around 20 minutes for both eyes, or approximately 10 minutes per eye. There is some pressure sensation during surgery but no pain. Your surgeon will talk to you and guide you during the surgery. The commonest statement that we hear from patients after the surgery is “What! Finished already!” In most cases , it is very a comfortable process for the patient.
